About Jaw Pain / TMJ

 
 

Jaw pain is typically caused by Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, more commonly referred to as "TMJ". It is the complex joint that connects the jaw to the skull and the only joint that moves up, down and side-to-side. TMJ is caused then there is a misalignment of the jaw, neck and supporting muscles/joints.

TMJ can be extremely painful.

Causes include:

  • Jaw Misalignment
  • Head Misalignment
  • Neck Misalignment
  • Teeth Grinding (or "Clenching")
  • Trauma
  • Car Accidents
  • Underlying disease/ailment
  • Stress

Symptoms include:

  • Headaches
  • Aching in your ear
  • Jaw Pain
  • Jaw joint locking
  • Popping of the jaw joint
  • Pain in the cheeks
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Neck and Upper Back Spasms
